Convention Polices for General Convention Attendees, MikomiCore Staff and Guests at the Convention
A. Animals
ADA working animals are allowed in the convention space. Non-ADA animals are not permitted.
B. Badges
Badges must be visible at all times. Individuals without badges will not be granted access to any of the convention space. Badges may be removed or hidden for photography purposes but must be in viewable again after the picture. A fee will be charged for replacing a lost badge. Replacement badges will be authorized and provided by Registration. Check at the MikomiCore Lost and Found for lost badges. Please return any found badges to MikomiCore staff immediately.
C. Bare Feet
Due to public health and safety requirements, all convention attendees are required to wear approved footwear while in the convention space. Acceptable footwear includes shoes, sandals, flip-flops, aqua sox, and slippers.
D. Costumes
We are all excited about dressing up as characters and in costumes for the upcoming MikomiCore convention. MikomiCore reserves the right to deem a costume unacceptable and request the wearer to make modifications as necessary. This convention is a family-friendly event. Please keep this in mind when choosing costumes and allow common sense and good taste to prevail (see section M regarding Indecent Exposure). Footwear, per the Bare Feet policy (section C), is required in the convention space.
E. Drinking
If you drink, don't drive! Please have a designated driver. There is no drinking in the convention space. Individuals must be 21 to consume alcohol in the United States. This also applies to our international attendees. Serving alcohol to minors is against United States law. Individuals who appear to be intoxicated will not be allowed into the convention space.
F. Flyers
MikomiCore will have a message board available at the Info table for people to post information. Please do not post any flyers on the doors or walls of the convention space; they will be removed. There will be a fan table available to place flyers for anime clubs or events. Please make sure flyers stay within a PG rating. Also see the Signage policy regarding signs that offer services (see Section T).
G. Food
No outside food or drink is allowed in the convention space.
H. Gaming
No Live Action Role Playing (LARPing) is allowed inside the main convention space.
I. Guests of Honor
MikomiCore’s Guests of Honor have taken time out of their busy schedules to attend. Please respect the privacy of the Guests of Honor. Attendees will be able to gather autographs of the guests during specified times. Unruly behavior is a “Three Strikes” offense (see section Y) and may result in disciplinary action up to termination of membership.
J. Harassment and Assault
MikomiCore does not tolerate harassment. Harassment is any behavior that intentionally annoys, threatens, or alarms another person. This includes any unwanted physical contact, following someone without a legitimate reason, or threatening to physically harm someone. Remember, if someone approaches you and you tell them to leave you alone, their business with you is done. If they do not leave you alone as you have requested, their actions may be grounds for a complaint of harassment.
Offenders will be given a strike per the “Three Strikes” policy (see section Y) and may face revocation of their membership if the offense warrants such action. Preliminary determinations will be made by the MikomiCore Attendee Services Manager.
If an assault occurs, call 911 immediately, or use one of the blue emergency call stations posted around the Convention Area, and then please report the matter to MikomiCore Staff. Any Campus Phone can be used to dial 911 directly.
A person who assaults or harasses another person is guilty of a crime under California State law.
K. Illegal Substances
Any illegal substance abuse or paraphernalia will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
L. Indecent Exposure
MikomiCore requires that all attendees wear attire equivalent to at least a non-thong swimsuit while in the convention space. MikomiCore Attendee Services may, at their discretion, ask attendees to change their attire if they are not complying with this policy; repeat offenders may earn a strike against their badge as per the “Three Strikes” policy (see section X).
Overt sexual behavior or attire will result in MikomiCore Attendee Services asking the attendee to stop, and may result in a strike against the attendee’s badge. If there is any disagreement with the decision of MikomiCore Attendee Services, or if the attendee feels that he or she is being treated unfairly by MikomiCore Attendee Services, he or she may appeal to the MikomiCore Chair, but the MikomiCore Chairs’ decision is final.
M. Liability
MikomiCore, Write 4 Hope, and its affiliates are not responsible for any loss, damage, theft, or injury. Attendees are responsible for their individual actions and any repercussions that may result. Civil or medical emergencies are to be handled directly by the proper authorities.
N. Merchandise
All merchandise must be paid for. Attendees must keep receipts with them at all times. Please wait in line and do not crowd the exhibitor’s tables. Any weapons that are purchased from the Exhibitors’ Hall must be peacebonded, as per the Weapons Policy (section Y).
O. Minors
When minors pick up their badges, they must be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian. A designated guardian must have written permission from the minor's parent or legal guardian. All guardians must be age eighteen or over and a registered member of the convention. All minors must have a parent or guardian on the premises at all times.
1. Minors age 12 and under
All children age twelve and under must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is a registered attendee of MikomiCore.
2. Minors age 13 to 17
All minors thirteen to seventeen must have a parent or guardian on the convention space at all times. All parents and guardians must be registered attendees of MikomiCore.
3. Curfew policy
Campus policies limit the MikomiCore hours on all indoor convention space at 1:00 AM.
P. Photography
Cameras and camcorders are not allowed in the Art Show. Photography of art, model, toy and collectibles displays may be allowed with the permission of the Art Show Coordinator and the artist. Contact the Art Show Coordinator for more details. Photography of original artwork in Artist Alley is not allowed without permission of the artist.
Photography is restricted to specific events. Please see event descriptions to see which events allow photography. Photography of all other aspects of the convention is allowed, as long as it does not disrupt events or the flow of traffic, and the subject does not object. Please be considerate and ask first before taking pictures of guests, convention staff, other attendees, or the general public.
Q. Press
Press MUST check at the Press Room for additional information pertaining to Press. MikomiCore reserves the right to grant or deny approval for all video recording requests. Permissions may be retracted at any time.
MikomiCore Staff may take photos of the general public and of the events. These pictures may be used for promotional purposes to promote MikomiCore.
R. Room Parties
MikomiCore does not recognize or endorse room parties. MikomiCore does not allow advertising of room parties in any official capacity. This includes flyers, message board threads, or e-mail correspondence via any official MikomiCore channels.
S. Recreational Vehicles
MikomiCore is not responsible for RV arrangements, reservations, or fines due to violation of rules caused by unauthorized RV parking.
T. Signage
While in convention space, please refrain from displaying or wearing signs that offer services. Signs with inappropriate content will be removed, and may result in a strike as per the “Three Strikes” policy (see section X). Also see the Flyers policy (section F).
U. Sleeping in Convention Areas
Do NOT sleep in the convention space or public areas.
V. Smoking
The State of California prohibits smoking indoors and within twenty-five feet of doorways and building ventilation access. Please follow hotel and campus policies regarding smoking.
W. Theft
Any MikomiCore attendee caught in the act of shoplifting or stealing will be handed over to the authorities, have their membership revoked, and refused service into all future MikomiCore. No exceptions.
X. “Three Strikes” Policy
MikomiCore Attendee Services watches for both policy violations and criminal activity. Policy violations are handled by MikomiCore Attendee Services under MikomiCore’s "Three Strikes" policy:
- Strike One: Attendee is given a general warning and informed of the policy being violated.
- Strike Two: Attendee membership is suspended, his or her badge is reclaimed by MikomiCore for one hour, and the attendee is escorted from the convention space. The attendee may retrieve his or her badge at the MikomiCore Attendee Services Office after one hour.
- Strike Three: Convention Membership REVOKED.
Strikes may be issued for reasons including but not limited to:
- Harassment
- Disorderly conduct or disruption of the convention or hotels
- Violation of any convention polices as stated in this document
- Avoiding a MikomiCore staff member trying to speak with you about a policy violation (i.e. walking away while he/she is explaining the violation, you wouldn't walk away from a police officer, its the same idea)
- Entering a closed area or section
There is NO time limit between strikes. Should a membership be revoked, the attendee can appeal the circumstances to the MikomiCore Attendee Services Manager and the MikomiCore Chair during the convention.
Criminal actions are referred to local law enforcement and will lead to immediate ejection from the convention regardless of the “Three Strikes” policy.
Facility security and staff of any public function space do not have general responsibility for any aspect of the convention, but can choose to respond to any disruptive action. If the security or staff from any public function space should choose to remove an individual from the convention site, the convention will immediately revoke attendee membership.
MikomiCore Attendee Services reserves the right to revoke MikomiCore attendee membership and eject anyone at any time from the convention without a refund.
Y. Weapons
No attendees will be permitted to carry any kind of functional projectile weapon. This includes individuals who possess a weapons permit or concealed weapons permit. Keep them at home. Anyone found in possession of such a weapon will immediately have their membership revoked. Individuals caught in the illegal possession of a functioning projectile weapon will be reported and turned over to the proper authorities. All other items that could be used as a weapon MUST be peacebonded. If you do not know, please check with the Peacebonding desk. Peacebonding will be conducted at the Peacebonding table near the Dealers hall. After hours, please see the MikomiCore Attendee Services Office to obtain a convention-recognized peacebond. Complete this action BEFORE wandering through or around the convention space, or you will receive a strike against your badge as per the “Three Strikes” policy (see section X). All bladed items must be kept in their sheaths at all times in the convention space. Weapons should never be waved around in a manner that may be construed as use of the weapon (this is considered brandishing). Gun replica or other replica projectile weapons should not be pointed at anyone at any time. Replica pistols need to remain in a holster; Replica rifles need to be packed away at all times with the exception of photo opportunities and must be put away immediately after. All replica guns must have the standard orange tip visible or be colors that define it as a replica. All replica guns must not be loaded (this includes water guns). All replica guns may have their authorization for display removed at anytime by the order of the Convention Chair , Convention Staff or Community Service Officers, or Campus Police. Drawing a weapon in the convention space, including parking lots, may result in immediate revocation of convention membership. Keep in mind, police will assume all drawn weapons are functional, and will act accordingly. If you are unsure whether your weapon is acceptable in the convention space, please ask MikomiCore Staff or ask at the Convention Office. Exotic weapons will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Do not bring weapons that MikomiCore Staff cannot tell are fake from ten feet away.
Note that following the incident at Virginia Tech in 2007, the California State University system authorities tightly limits the possession of replica firearms on campus. We require that all CosPlayers with such props bring their props to registration for inspection and peacebonding immediately upon arrival.
Realize that following the Virginia Tech massacre walking around campus for a photoshoot with a replica firearm is not advised, with or without a peacebond. If you choose to do a photoshoot do everything you can to mitigate someone from getting the wrong idea. Students are used to filming on campus. Bringing a car windshield pop-up reflector to hold to reflect light for better photos is a great idea and says to bystanders that there is a photoshoot taking place, so calling the police and reporting a gunman is pre-mature. It may save you from being ticketed or arrested.
Z. Video Recording Policy
Video recording is restricted to specific events. Please see event descriptions to see which events allow video recording. Video recording of Guests of Honor near their personal hotel rooms is prohibited.
If you have any questions e-mail our Chairman. We are always happy to clarify any details to make MikomiCore a great experience.
